Welcome
Our company was founded in 1977 by owner Larry Waller. He started in the shoe business by purchasing a shoe repair shop. After learning about the repair business from a 75 year old master, he wanted to learn how to make shoes. He then apprenticed to Dan Holliday to learn how to make his first pairs of shoes. He attended the Merrill Boot Institute and learned about boot making and continued on to Ball State University to study orthopedics and orthotics. After considering many different options, he chose to make period and theatrical footwear. Walrus has supplied 15th, 17th and 18th century footwear to many of the largest living history museums in the country. We also work with costume design groups for theatrical productions and offer many services, supplies and equipment to the shoemaking and leather industry.
